Elsewhere online in AI idiocy this morning. Someone posts a Latin text, asking politely for an expert translation.

First response is 'Here, I ran it through ChatGPT for you. No idea if this is accurate'.

Would we call that more or less than useless? Either way, headdesk.

But presumably that person genuinely thought doing this would be helpful. I find that very worrying.

Right, back to my own work which is and will remain uncontaminated by any so-called AI

Actually, it's a pretty good translation. As good as the one I can coax out of my brain with the help of Blitz Latin and a lot faster to achieve. It is worrying that the person providing it puts it forward without the skill to check it, but that doesn't negate the value of AI in doing the initial draft for an expert.

I just filled out the government consultation survey, which... Well, it's framed for businesses, not individuals, which is not a positive, and it really is pandering to the pirates.
Sigh.

I worked my way through that questionnaire too. It took a while, but thankfully you can save your progress and return another time to complete it. But yes, it was very much biased in favour of letting the AI companies steal everything and then grant them copyright on the things the AI produces. That is just not on.
