The cats have had their annual check-up and vaccinations this week.

Hmm, says nice lady vet, when assessing ex-large ex-tom ginger and white cat Buzz, I thought we were trying to get his weight down.

Indeed, say I, we have adopted the weight-reduction feeding regime as discussed last time, and seen a resulting increase in mouse-based snacks, as I predicted.

Ah well, says nice lady vet, looking in his mouth, at least he's getting the exercise, and as you can see, interaction with the rodent community does wonders for keeping his teeth clean.

Short pause while we laugh and Buzz does his best to creep unobtrusively off the exam table.

Small black female cat Sable however has no such weight issues, indeed she's a bit too skinny and her teeth do need attention. That'll be happening next Tuesday, when they'll also investigate her snuffly nose and watery eye.

No sign of infection in the eye, or indeed damage. We know this coz the vet applied an indicator dye-thingy.

Which meant we had Basement Cat with one eye outlined in lurid green for the rest of the day. Rather startling.

After she has her teeth done, she'll need a few days on soft food - and in fact, the nice lady vet thinks giving her a regular top-up of something tasty that Buzz can't get at would be a good idea, to build her up a bit.

I foresee a supplementary food dish in the study... To go with the supplementary water bowl she already has, to stop her dipping her paw in my cup/glass if she happens to feel thirsty.
