In our wide-ranging and interesting discussion* on heroes at Newcon, we kept referring back to the archetypal "square-jawed, mighty-thewed hero". My friend'n'colleague
desperance commented this really did need an acronym. On the way to the bar, he further observed that might-thewed-hero does give us -MTH as a potentially useful ending.
Yesterday it occured to me that and-mighty-thewed-hero could be still more useful at -AMTH. Handsome-and-mighty-thewed-hero? HAMTH?
Feel free to improve on this.
* what essential qualities define a hero? Are they physical (youth, strength) or mental (courage, integrity, intelligence)? Can you have a stupid hero? What about particular skill-sets? Omni-competence vs mono-competence. Does a hero need a sidekick/mentor/nemesis? To what extent is a hero defined by the circumstances he finds himself in? One man's freedom fighter etc. Or her circumstances? Does a hero need a - let me rephrase that, can a hero be female? As opposed to being a heroine? What's the difference between a hero and a protagonist? And so on.
