Well, we have carpets through most of the house now. New, spiffy carpets with good quality underlay. It's marvellous - and not just because the cats coming down the stairs no longer sound like a detachment of stormtroopers.
The cats are very taken with the new carpets. While the fitters were in on Friday, they were both sneaking into rooms that had already been done, to stand there kneading the floor. Mind you, we have now discovered that Sable, small black cat, is for all intents and purposes invisible on the dark green lounge carpet in low light.
Anyway, the carpet fitters are returning this afternoon to do the lads' bedrooms and then that will be that done. So now the marathon of furniture replacement awaits. We did make a start on that over the weekend, and at least some of it has actually gone back to its designated position, notably the contents of the study and mine and husband's wardrobes/chests of drawers.
Though this would all have gone rather better if I hadn't come down with the first grotty cold of the season on Friday. Felt dire over the weekend and none too clever this morning.
So, the remaining upstairs tasks will be returning furniture and contents (including a lot of books...) to sons' rooms and then re-assembling our bed. Downstairs needs all the furniture and contents taking out of the garage and putting stuff where it lives eg DVDs and CDs on the relevant bookcase, contents of the sideboard being repatriated from the temporary home in the utility room. I reckon we should just about be done by mid-October, which will mean this whole exercise will have taken three months. Phew.
Not that I can sit back and take it easy. I've got a coupla thousand words left to write to finish up the first draft of Blood in the Water and then I'm into the rewrites and revision phase. All pretty much according to schedule. Phew. Delivery date's 12th November, so no time for slacking.
Thereafter The Write Fantastic has a good few gigs through November and December and my next job is posting details of those, so watch this space.
