Well, I knew I'd be teaching creative writing this month but wasn't expecting to be teaching aikido. I do have my coach qualification - and thereby the necessary insurance - but there's Steve and Jason as more senior dan grades in the club.
Only Jason hasn't trained for ages on account of tiresome muscular-skeletal issues and Steve had to be in Halewood for a presentation at crack of dawn this morning, necessitating an overnight stay.
Happily the class went well - and we had three new chaps! This is very good news since we've lost a few regular students to work and education-related moves over the past six months. Now we just have to hope they continue coming. A lot of folks come a couple of times and then decide aikido's not for them. Which is fair enough and we know this is exactly what happens in every club so we don't get paranoid about it.
Having some newcomers was very good for the two teenage lads we now have training - to show them how much they have learned over the past six months compared to absolute beginners. The boys are rather used to everyone telling them what to do. Not only are they the youngest on the mat but one is our younger son and the other is the son of another member. Both born since the club's foundation when we all started training together. Not sure how many clubs are into their second generation but we rather like the idea of growing our own students.
***addendum***
We must have got it pretty much right between us. The newcomers turned up for Thursday's class and brought two pals. A fun time was had by all. Roll on next Tuesday!
