Well, I haven't fallen any further behind this week, despite the mad diary, but I haven't made up any ground.

Not least because the workmen resurfacing the cycle path at the end of the road where we live managed to dig through the mains electricity cable and short out the supply to over a hundred houses for just over six hours. So yesterday - the day when I really hoped I'd be able to crack on - became a background reading day.

Hopefully I can get a good day's work in today. After I've dealt with annoyances like the letter from BT helpfully telling me we're being switched to paper-free billing on account of saving the planet - unless we spend the necessary time to log on to their website, register an account and say, no, actually, I want to keep getting paper bills, thanks all the same.

Because viewing them online is no use for the small business person. Asking for the detail only gets you a list of your calls on an Excel spreadsheet. Since I could just make that up myself, quite reasonably, HM Revenue and Customs and other such official bodies are not about to accept it as evidence of my business and personal phone usage.

Anyway, the mad diary is subsiding a bit. And the last week or so has been very useful and informative about the current state of play in the booktrade. Hopefully I'll find time next week to post a bit about all that.
