I imagine one of the topics kicked around the bar at FantasyCon this year will be the ever-popular 'blogging and social networking sites - worth doing or just a waste of time on a par with hoovering the cat.'

Okay, we did once have a cat who adored being hoovered. Such that he'd lie down in front of the sucky bit of the cylinder-type hoover until he got his wish. Up to and including the operator taking the end off and sucking his tail up the pipe. He was a long hair who lived an active outdoor life and saw no point in grooming himself.

But back to blogging and such. I know writers who've had excellent results, others who find it tedious and unrewarding and others who just don't bother. So debate can be lively, to say the least.

Danuta Kean is a book-trade journalist whose byline is always well worth looking out for. She's just posted this article which I recommend to any blogging author - and anyone else come to that - as food for thought.
