Well, I took a full month off aikido, like the medic said. And yes, the previously-knackered foot is considerably improved for the rest, tho' still not a hundred percent. But as with so many sports injuries, I reckon that last ten percent or so could to take anything up to six months and I'm not prepared to sit around waiting that long.

So I strapped it and was careful and I'm happy to say everything was fine. I certainly knew I'd been using it, if that makes sense, but it didn't hurt by the end of the lesson. And crucially, there's no swelling or twinges this morning. Hurrah.

And I had a really good practise. Now my shodan grading is done and dusted, I'm a lot more relaxed - which is definitely improving my technique.

And I'm still getting a buzz out of having a black belt to wear, after so many years in white.

Tomorrow will be an interesting test of the foot, mind you. I'm driving to Southampton and back, for The Write Fantastic's gig at the Central Library (7.30 pm onwards, all welcome!). So we'll see how the clutch-operating ligaments hold up.
