You will recall I knackered my foot about six weeks ago? Well, it was doing OK until a couple of weeks ago when I found myself doing quite a lot of driving for The Write Fantastic's amazing May schedule.
It was a bit tender by the time I drove
desperance into Oxford on the Saturday for his train. By that evening it was all swolled up again which was unexpected and tedious. But Sunday on the sofa seemed to sort that out.
Only an incautious but hardly excessively energetic move at aikido on Tuesday prompted agonising pains around the ankle joint. Which hasn't improved over the past couple of days so since it's half term and thus any notion of work is stymied by the lads being home, I took myself off to the local minor injuries unit this morning. Since getting down stairs first thing was excruciating.
Well, the good news is nothing's broken. That much was evident without x-ray when the forthright chap in navy blue scrubs articulated stuff. But I have comprehensively over-strained the ligaments. This was proven when the chap traced the ligaments with his thumb and I yelped every time he applied any pressure.
Apparently I did exactly the right thing with the initial injury, i.e. rest, ice, compression and elevation. Only I have done exactly the wrong thing since then, in that I have been going about my usual routine, including 'sport', even if I reckoned I was taking it easy. I got a bit of a telling off about that. So I didn't mention doing my grading...
I should have been resting it for a month to six weeks. So now I get to do no aikido for a month, along with staying off it as much as possible in general.
Humph.
Oh well, the diary's pretty quiet for June so that should just about be doable.
And given it hurts like a mad hurty thing, I am inclined to do as the chap in the navy blue scrubs advises.
